Early Careers Framework (ECF)
The DfE has produced this overview of the Early Career Framework Reforms.
Teachers deserve high-quality support throughout their careers, particularly in those first years after ITT when the learning curve is steepest. From September 2021, the Early Career Framework (ECF) reforms will entitle all early career teachers to a fully-funded, two-year package of structured training and support linked to the best available research evidence.
Coupled with the ITT Core Content Framework, the ECF will establish an entitlement to a
three-year structured and evidence-informed package of support for all new teachers at the
start of their careers. Together, these reforms will become the cornerstone of a successful
career in teaching.
UCL ECF Programme
This framework describes what teachers should know and what they should be able to do.
Each Early Career Teacher will be supported by a school based mentor and will have weekly sessions covering the research based training material produced by UCL. Training resources and on-line sessions are also provided as part of the programme.
Schools may sign up for the Full Induction Programme (FIP) which includes facilitation support and two conference sessions per term or the Core Induction Programme (CIP) – accessing the materials only.

Register your school (DfE online service)
Throughout the month of May, schools will receive an email from the DfE relating to the new statutory induction for Early Career Teachers starting in September 2021.
The email includes a school specific link to an online service that has been put in place to help schools manage the new programme. Alternatively, schools can access the online service here.
In the first instance, all schools are required to do is:
• nominate an induction tutor and
• indicate whether they will be following the core or full induction programme.
If you would like to sign up to the full induction programme with UCL in collaboration with Teach West London, please send an email to [email protected] to let us know that you would like to follow the full induction programme with UCL
The next steps will then be as follows:
• Teach West London will send you an email of intent (provided by UCL) for you to sign and return
• Once Teach West London has passed on your email of intent to UCL, UCL will inform the DfE of your decision to follow their full induction programme
• The DfE will then contact your induction tutor via the online service asking them to confirm the number of ECTs for September 2021.
There are no additional actions required at this time.
If you would like further information about delivering the full induction programme in collaboration with Teach West London and UCL, or if you have any other questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at [email protected].Back to the top
